Tindall Corporation’s Georgia Division has increased their production in the manufacturing of precast concrete detention cell modules. Tindall has recently won several county jail projects located throughout the United States. This building system allows Tindall to produce corrections projects in record time, with greater safety and structural superiority.
Tindall was recently awarded contracts to manufacture modular cells for the Prince William County Adult Detention Center expansion in Virginia, Geneva County Jail expansion in Alabama and the Schoharie County Public Safety Facility in New York.
“As a leader in the corrections construction industry for over three decades, we are excited to have so many new opportunities come our way,” said Rob Smith, Vice President and General Manager of Tindall’s Georgia Division. “Our facility has the capacity to keep up with this increase in module production while maintaining the schedules of our other precast work.”
Prince William County Adult Detention Center is undergoing its second expansion in Virginia. The previous phase of the facility was constructed over a decade ago, but an influx in population demanded another expansion. The center will be adding 204 beds at a cost of approximately $44 million dollars. Tindall’s Virginia Division will also be contributing in management of the project, primarily in the production of other precast elements including columns, beams, and wall panels.
Tindall is also producing 32 precast cell modules for the Geneva County Jail located in Alabama. A portion of these modular cells will feature an open front to resemble a dormitory style living space, an element that is unique to most correctional facilities.
Schoharie County Public Safety Facility in New York decided to rebuild its new facility outside of its flood plain after being damaged in 2011 by Tropical Storm Irene. County officials worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to secure $37 million in public assistance and disaster relief funding. Tindall is assisting the rebuild with 34 precast concrete double modular cells that range in size from 70 to 104 square feet.
Each cell module is manufactured in Tindall’s off-site production facility while the foundation and other site work is being prepped. Modules serve as the load bearing system for the building structure, and contains cast-in doors and windows for heightened security.

Each project was built with assistance from industry leaders including LaBella Associates, BBL Construction, Architectural firm HOK, and JMR+H Architecture with completion periods varying from late 2019 into early 2020.
