Tindall Awarded Contract for Union Bank & Trust Center

Tindall Corporation’s Virginia Division has been awarded the contract for James Madison University’s Union Bank & Trust Center, a new facility designed to enhance the student-athlete and fan experience. Tindall will partner with S.B. Ballard Construction Company, a general contractor with whom they have worked for more than 15 years. The project broke ground on April 27 and is expected to be completed for the 2020-21 JMU basketball season.

Tindall will manufacture the precast concrete for the arena risers and parking structure. The center will boast 8,500 seats during basketball games and accommodate nearly 10,000 with additional floor seating for commencement and other major events. The adjacent parking deck will house 1,500 spaces for the facility.

“Our partnership with S.B. Ballard is built on reliability and trust,” said Chuck Wynings, VP and GM of Tindall’s Virginia Division. “We are committed to providing high-performance precast that will give JMU Athletics and the community a world-class facility where they can bring home championships.”

“Tindall has been a trusted partner of ours for over 15 years and we have total confidence in the skills of their team,” said Stephen Ballard, President and CEO of S.B. Ballard. “We know that they can handle a project of this scale with efficiency to bring the fans of JMU a sports experience like no other.”

The Union Bank & Trust Center’s architectural design was developed by Mosely Architects and Populous. S.B. Ballard serves as the general construction manager. The facility will be located on the East Campus on the corner of Carrier Drive and University Boulevard.

Union Bank & Trust was awarded naming rights for $2.25 million. The partnership represents the largest corporate naming agreement in university history and helped JMU meet a $12 million fundraising goal to move forward with construction.
