When the Naval Facilities Engineering Command needed new military housing capable of accommodating 336 beds in under three months, Tindall knew that coordination and proper planning would be mission critical. For this design-build project, our engineering and field operations departments worked closely with the designer, general contractor, and erector to address the owner’s needs and develop a total precast solution that would exceed expectations.

A Design-Build Approach to Military Housing

This five-story, 83,377-square-foot dorm required progressive collapse construction and placement of MEP under the ground-level precast floor. To overcome these challenges, Tindall took a design-build approach to the project’s design and carefully coordinated each step of the erection to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective structure possible. The final design leveraged insulated precast walls with integral architectural finishes, columns, beams, and precast slabs for both the floors and roof.

The Bachelor Enlisted Quarters featured 83 units with four beds each, an inviting common area, and an attractive exterior comprised of architectural precast, reveals, and sills. Tindall’s close collaboration with the other teams on the project was critical to delivering this structure on time and within budget.
